USM Perkukuh Tadbir Urus Penyelidikan Kanser Menerusi Bengkel Pengurusan Geran Efisien

KEPALA BATAS, 21 May 2026: The Research, Innovation and Networking Division, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Cancer Centre (PKTAAB), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) today organised a Grant Management Workshop to strengthen governance and improve the effectiveness of research management among PKTAAB academics and researchers.

The program, which took place in the Seminar Room, Cancer Research Complex (CRC), PKTAAB and was attended by 34 staff, aimed to ensure compliance in the management of research grants was implemented more systematically and comprehensively in line with university standards and the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT).

The program began with a welcome speech by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatanah bt Mohamad Suhaimi, Head of the Department of Dental Sciences representing the Deputy Director (Research and Networking) of PKTAAB. The program was well received by the heads of departments, academic staff, as well as research officers and administrative staff of BPIJ.

The program titled "Excellent Grant Governance: Effective Management Strategies" was presented by Assoc. Prof. Ts. Chm. Dr. Noorfatimah Binti Yahaya who is the Deputy Director (Research Management) at the Research Management and Creativity Office (RCMO) of USM.

In her sharing, Dr. Noorfatimah emphasized that efficient grant management is the cornerstone of achieving the University's Strategic Agenda, including the target of being among the top 100 universities in the world. She also reminded researchers that every grant received is a trust that must be managed with high integrity to produce a real impact on society, industry, and the national economy.

This workshop also explored the RDICE (Research, Development, Innovation, Commercialization, and Economy) ecosystem which is the main roadmap in transforming university research results into economic value.

In addition, participants were also given exposure to technical aspects such as ethical compliance, talent management (GRA), and publishing strategies in high-impact journals.

Through the organization of this workshop, the university hopes that researchers will be able to streamline their respective research administration affairs and thus contribute to USM's continued excellence as a leading research university.

This workshop indirectly supports the achievement of SDGs, namely SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being through a focus on cancer and health research at PKTAAB for the benefit of the community; SDG 4 Quality Education through the empowerment of researcher talent, academic staff competency training (RCP), and human capital development (GRA/PhD); SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through strengthening the RDICE ecosystem, innovation, intellectual property (IP), and collaboration with industry; and SDG 17 Collaboration for Goals through a network of strategic collaboration between departments, industries, and national and international agencies in the management of research funds.
