As an effort to strengthen regional academic networks and broaden the horizons of student/lecturer experiences, an international collaboration program has been established since 2022 between the Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (IPPT), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), and several higher education institutions around Medan, Indonesia. This program has been successfully carried out through various academic, practical, and community-based activities, reflecting the spirit of cross-border knowledge sharing. As a continuation of this collaboration, a student exchange program from IPPT to one of the higher education institutions in Medan took place in November 2024. In this program, IPPT students were exposed to the higher education system in Indonesia as well as the local healthcare system. They were also involved in knowledge transfer sessions, including sharing their academic and research experiences with high school students in Medan. This initiative not only strengthened bilateral ties between institutions and nations, but also nurtured early interest among young students in the fields of science and research. Undeniably, this activity provided valuable opportunities for Malaysian students to explore the history and culture of a neighboring country, while establishing international networks early in their careers, helping them to appreciate the importance of cross-border education in fostering high-quality and lifelong learning.
