Lunch at Malikka City
MAHIDOL UNIVERSITY, November 13 2023 -

Visiting Mahidol University gives us a big exploration on many aspects, not only in the research field but also in their cultures especially their cuisines. Thai cuisine is a popular Southeast Asian dish recognized for the combination of fresh herbs and spices. Contrasting flavors are balanced in exquisite treats in every Thai cuisines. Your taste buds will be delighted as you discover the wide range of cuisines available in Thailand. From appetizers to the desserts. For five days being in Thailand, we have been introduced to few highly pleasing and mouth-watering cuisines.

We tried the very significant classic cuisine of Thailand which is the “tom yam”. The fresh seafood and spices combination with the shrimp paste, lime, chillies, lemongrass and corianders make it very aromatic, astringent, appetizing and exclusive that we would never found in other places. Next, this kind of dessert which is zalacca in syrup or sala dessert would be everyone favorite dessert. The sala syrup is absolutely artificial, incredibly sweet, juicy and aromatic. But, we can tell you from experience that the fruit itself will be just as sweet and tasty as the syrup! It is a very satisfying original taste of Thailand. The other savory cuisines that we have tried are “som tam”, mango sticky rice, “pad thai” and chicken massaman curry. Every cuisines have its own uniqueness of taste that we will remember until the last bite.

Lunch served at Malikka City

I would suggest you to go to the Mallika City. Mallika City is a retro-city in the Chao Phraya River Basin that reflects the past Siamese lifestyle. It's a living museum where you can wander around and interact with villagers (workers costumed in historical clothing) and even play villager yourself. Not only to visit the attractions there, but also to try the signature cuisines there. We were well served by the restaurant waiters. The cuisines that we tried were the steamed Yisok fish, original Stir-fried fish with chilli and ginger, chicken green curry, and refreshing local fruits which were watermelon and guava. It gave us an unforgettable good experience to enjoy the peaceful and relax environment of moat surrounding grand Mallika while listening to the sound of traditional musical instruments.

Dinner during Cultural Night

Next, the most unforgettable special cuisines that we tried were served by Mahidol University on the cultural nights. There were a variety of foods served such as savory tom yam, crispy fried chicken, crunchy fried brinjal, refreshing drinks and local fruits. Thai is very significant for its local fruits which is rambutan, longan and mandarin orange. The foods was very good especially when it was dip into the original Thai sauce and not to forget to slurp the tom yam soup. The mixed taste of sweet, spicy and sour make it the best combination ever. Everyone would never say no to foods on the cultural night! It is very good to enjoy the foods while enjoying the cultural nights and strengthen the relationship between the students. There were many more Thai cuisines that we should tries and I believed it will not disappoint you.
