Tapping into the Future: Highlights from the UK-Malaysia AI Conference 2023

I recently attended the United Kingdom (UK) Malaysia Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference 2023, a premier event that brings together experts, researchers, and enthusiasts from the United Kingdom and Malaysia to discuss the latest advancements, trends, and breakthroughs in the field of AI. It was held from October 17th to 18th, 2023, in the Connexion Conference & Event Centre, Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur. The conference was jointly organized by the British High Commission Kuala Lumpur and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

The conference was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, and the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, YB Chang Lih Kang. The conference proved to be an exceptional gathering of experts, researchers, professionals, students, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts from both the United Kingdom and Malaysia. The main objective of the conference was to promote international collaboration in the development and implementation of AI technologies.


The UK MY AI Conference 2023 hosted renowned keynote speakers from Malaysia and the UK who shared their insights on the future of AI, such as MRANTI, MAMPU, MDEC, Cancer Research Malaysia, the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Alan Turing Institute, and techUK. The conference was spread out over two days, consisting of eight sessions. Each session adheres to different themes, with a diverse range from governance to open data and AI applications highlighted, demonstrating how AI is being used in healthcare, finance, education, and beyond. The conference showcased the real-world impact of AI in these sectors and centred on the ethical and responsible development of AI models and the need for international coordination in this area.




 

The conference featured a startup showcase, where emerging companies presented innovative AI solutions and products. It was fascinating to see the entrepreneurial spirit driving AI forward. The networking aspect of the conference was invaluable. It allowed attendees, like myself to engage with peers, establish collaborations, and connect with potential mentors, partners, and investors.

In summary, the UK-Malaysia AI Conference 2023 was a significant event that brought together global leaders to discuss the ethical and responsible development of AI models. The conference resulted in a declaration on AI safety that aims to ensure that AI is developed and used ethically and responsibly.
