The live session with the keynote speakers
Virtual Meeting (via Webex), June 29 2021 -

Advanced Medical & Dental Institute (AMDI), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has hosted IPPT USM Medical Physics Webinar Series with the theme "Managing Patient Dose in Computed Tomography". It was the first series of Medical Physics webinar organised by Oncological and Radiological Sciences Cluster, Medical Physics Unit, and Imaging Unit of AMDI USM, Penang, Malaysia. Due to current pandemic situation, this webinar was held virtually via Webex platform.

The webinar is accredited by few Malaysian accreditation bodies such as Ministry of Health (MOH) for 4 CME points, Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) for 5 CEP points, and Academy of Medicine of Malaysia for 8 MMC CPD points. It is sponsored by GE Healthcare Sdn. Bhd. (as Platinum Sponsors) and also multiple sponsors such as United Solar Energy, Medcin Pharma Sdn. Bhd., and Hippo Food Delivery.

This past year has seen increased of awareness on radiation dose from low-level ionising radiation among health professional and public. This webinar highlighted current issues and challenges in managing radiation dose in computed tomography (CT), strategies to optimise CT practice through patient dose management and the importance of dose reference levels. The participants also gained exposure to recent studies on CT dose challenges and issues, the roles of medical physicists in dose management with sharing session on the requirement for establishment of local and national DRLs.

The webinar had successfully accomplished with series of talks and sharing sessions by the international renowned experts, and also local experts in medical physics and radiology fields. The webinar presented three international speakers, Dr. Madan M. Rehani (Director of Global Outreach for Radiation Protection, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA and also the President of International Organization for Medical Physics, IOMP), Prof. Dr. Abdelmoneim Sulieman, (Professor of Radiological Imaging Sciences and Medical Physics, Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia), Dr. David Miller (Global Director Product Manager for Dose Management at GE Healthcare, USA).

The respective local experts were Prof. Dato' Dr. Abd Aziz Tajuddin (AMDI Former Director and now is the Vice Chancellor and President at Albukhary International University, Kedah), together with other academician and physicist from local university and ministry. Besides, this webinar also presenting the renowned experts of our faculty members such as Dr. Muhamad Zabidi Ahmad, Dr. Noor Diyana Osman, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Ezane Aziz from HUSM.

Over 125 attendees has participated in this knowledge-transferring webinar including medical physicists, science officer, radiologist, radiographers, academician, and postgraduate students from Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Yemen, and also local participants. This webinar has been successfully held and received many positive feedbacks from the attendees and has increased the visibility of our institution to the world for future collaborations.
