In the realm of global health, the joint efforts of the Monitoring and Surveillance Center for Zoonotic Diseases in Wildlife and Exotic Animals (MoZWE) and the EIDs Researchers Group are a formidable alliance, actively monitoring and preventing zoonotic diseases in alignment with the One Health approach.

This collaboration goes beyond mere cooperation, focusing on detailed projects that unravel disease transmission complexities in wildlife. By studying exotic wild animals and those at garbage dumping sites, the joint projects enrich our understanding of disease vectors for future preventative measures.

During the immersive journey of the EIDs group, students focused on biosafety and biosecurity through a comprehensive visit to Mahidol University's laboratories, gaining valuable insights into these critical realms.

On November 14, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anuwat Wiratsudakul and Dr. Ng Siew Kit led a delegation from Mahidol University and Universiti Sains Malaysia on a collaborative visit to the ASEAN Institute for Health Development (AIHD) at Mahidol University. Facilitated by gracious hosts, this initiative marked a shared pursuit of knowledge exchange in global health.

The visit included a warm reception at AIHD, where Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cheerawit Rattanapan highlighted AIHD's significant contributions to global health. Insights into AIHD's commitment to health and sustainable development were shared, followed by discussions on potential collaboration between AIHD and USM.

Key highlights of the trip involved students acquiring practical skills in collecting fresh bat faeces samples, guided by experts. Additionally, a vibrant cultural exchange between Malaysia and Thailand raised friendship. The EIDs group's experience included an encounter with Thailand's majestic elephants, a visit to the iconic "Death Railway," and an exploration of Mallika City, offering glimpses into Thailand's history.

As our collaborative visit concludes, it stands as a testament to our commitment to advancing global health. The insightful presentations, discussions, and knowledge exchanges underscore the potential for impactful collaborations between our institutions in health and sustainable development.
